About the Event
ELIZABETH KEEN began as a dancer primarily in the companies of Paul Taylor and Tamiris/Nagrin, followed by USA touring and NYC performances (1960's to 80's) by her own group, EKDC, supported by the NEA, NYSCOA and the Artist in the Schools Program.
Theater and opera credits include SALOME (L.A. Opera and Covent Garden); La TRAVIATA (Glyndebourne), CARMEN (NY Met); L'ANGE de FEU (LA Opera, Bastille Opera, Netherlands Opera); KISS ME KATE (Artpark): The BEGGARS OPRA & POLLY at BAM; A COMEDY of ERRORS (the Delacorte); WINTER'S TALE and The TEMPEST (Royal National Theater) and the Everyman Street Theater. Keen currently teaches in the Ailey-Fordham BFA program after long stints at the Juilliard School, Princeton, Sarah Lawrence College and Manhattan Community College.
This presentation reflects Keen's long interest in combining word and movement. It will include LINE DRIVE to text by Karen Klein reflecting the charcoal drawing , SELF PORTRAIT, 1933, Kaethe Kollwitz and a new work, A BROOK of RHYMES, that interweaves Mother Goose, A.A. Milne and more adult concerns. Humor will play its part.
