Eva / At the Savoy

Eva is a dance theater piece that centers around a modern version of Eve’s story. Eva is a character feeling stuck in an imposed order, lost of meaning, and dreaming of escape. As she pursues her desire for change, consciousness, and reconnecting with nature she finds herself in an internal conflict that’s perpetuated by norms that she has abided by. Following her story, we delve into questions about identity, desire, and whether freedom is as promising as it seems?

Kristi's work is an examination of the inner thoughts individuals can have in a public place and how many people can convene at the same place for many different reasons. Inspiration pulled from Edward Hopper's painting Nighthawks and with a nod to Kristi's love for MGM Old Hollywood dance numbers, Kristi uses the jazz era to bring to life and tell the stories of patrons of a bar.
