The Bang Group presents…Catherine Tharin’s In The Wake of Yes

Commissioned by Harrison J. Weisner, a collaboration of music, film, audio and dance, Catherine Tharin premieres In the Wake of Yes, a work of pathos and humor. Created in response to Joel Forrester’s expressive piano scores, played live, the 60-minute work (choreography by Catherine Tharin) unfolds through solos, duets, a trio, and quartet—each shaped by the emotional presence of dancers Dylan Baker, Hannah Kearney, Jenny Levy, Daniel Morimoto (on film) and Jack Murphy, and features a visual world by filmmaker, Lora Robertson, creative audio by Allan Hunter and striking costumes by Colleen Howland. Readings of James Joyce’s Molly Bloom soliloquy, that repeats “yes” more than 80 times, by actor Patrick Fitzgerald and Dubliner Michelle Clayton, deepen the meditation on assent, longing, and the complexities of love that animate the piece. While rooted in personal experience, the work reaches beyond autobiography. What emerges is a quiet reflection on how we move with and alongside each other.
