About the Event

ABOUT THE ARTISTS: 

SPENCER JAMES WEIDIE (they/them) is a non-binary visual and performing artist based in NYC. Spencer was born in California, but raised in Japan and Hawai’i. They are a graduate of the Conservatory of Dance at Purchase College, SUNY with a BFA (Honors) in Dance and a concentration in Composition. They also studied at London Contemporary Dance School, Springboard Danse Montréal, and with the Merce Cunningham Trust. Spencer has performed works by Andrea Miller, Brian Brooks, Doug Varone, José Limón, Kimberly Bartosik, Merce Cunningham, Omar Roman de Jesus, Ohad Naharin, and Sharon Eyal. Spencer has been a company member with Brian Brooks/Moving Company since 2017 and with the Metropolitan Opera Ballet since 2018. They were previously a company member with Bocatuya, Gallim Dance, and MADBOOTS Dance.

TSIAMBWOM M. AKUCHU is a hip-hop and theatre artist whose work has been presented on stages like the Kennedy Center and Joe's Pub at The Public. His work fuses multiple street dance forms with physical theatre to create unique performance experiences. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Dance at California State University, Long Beach where he teaches multiple street dance styles including bboy, hip-hop social dance, and house while incorporating a historical and cultural understanding of the dance forms.
